Art Studio I-II-III

The main objectives of this course are:

1.       To define a project topic ;

2.       To conduct a proper methodology of research for the graduation project;

3.       To present findings in a coherent poetic and technical visual / verbal language;

To prepare a project report.

The main objectives of this course are:

1.    to introduce students to the concepts, and theories of architectural and urban design within a historical and contested context.

2.    to emphasize the interactions between politics, history, urban form and life.

3.    to develop innovative design ideas and a comprehensive program for an urban and architectural project which addresses different cultural, social and environmental contexts.

to provide students an exposure to contemporary issues affecting architectural and urban design, and provide an opportunity for developing knowledge of other cultures.

The main objective of this course is to:

1.      provide students with basic knowledge of the major cultural and philosophical approaches that underpinned architectural practice and discourse from the 19th to the 20th Century.

2.      take a critical and analytical approach to the major historical events of these periods within diverse and current interdisciplinary topics in the field of architecture.

3.      look at the works and philosophies of the major protagonists and/or architects.

A student who successfully completes this course will be able to:

  1. comprehend the nature of history in the study of modern architecture and its interdisciplinary character;
  2. identify diverse social, theoretical, historical, technological , professional and spatial topics related to the field of modern architecture;
  3. recognise the position of architecture as a discipline in a broader cultural context;
  4. use principal resources of research and study in the field of modern architecture
  5. critique historical events in the era of modern architecture understanding the major philosophical and cultural transformations that has taken place in modern architecture and the main protagonists.

A student who successfully complete this course will be able to:

The goal of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for wide span roof structures (folded plate, space frame, membranes, dome, truss systems etc.), stairs, windows, doors with their own detailing. All kinds of possible construction methods with their special finishing details will be dealt.

Advanced architectural drawing techniques, developed techniques of 3-D drawing, drawing conventions in different design branches, presentation techniques in various drawing media.


The complexity of most design projects and the nature of design work necessitate the use of graphic images to develop and communicate design ideas from the very early conceptual phase to the final construction stage. These “design drawings” are an integral part of the problem solving and design process. This course aims to introduce and equip students of Architecture and Interior Architecture with advanced architectural communication skills that they shall exercise throughout their university education and professional life. These skills include hand-on and computer based drawing method such as architectural convention. In accordance with the general objective drawn above, the course aims to enable students;

Express them in the process of design by learning how to analyze professional drawings and presentations.

Construct a communicative ground for conveying their design ideas throughout the process of design.

Represent their design ideas by using proper graphic techniques in various drawing media.

Art Studio I

A student who successfully complete this course will be able to:

1. To demonstrate the knowledge of the Modernization process in the History of Art Within the context of Architecture and Plastic Arts

2. To learn Artists and their Masterpieces in Modern Art Movements.

3. To enrich the student's insights on various images in Modern Art movements.

4. To comprehend that the relationship between artist and work differs based on the characteristics of Modern Movements.


Dersin amacı Photoshop programının inceliklerini öğreterek öğrencilerin kendi tasarımlarını yapmalarına zemin hazırlamak, kazanılan tekniklerle Karakter tasarımı, poster gibi tasarımları yapmalarını sağlamaktır.

Dersin başlıca amaçları:

1. Mitoloji kavramının kapsamını öğrenmek.

2. Antik Yunan dönemi ve Mitolojik hikayeleri hakkında bilgi sahibi olmak.

3. Antik Yunan Mitolojisi Tanrılarını ve Kahramanlarını öğrenmek.

4. Mitolojik hikayeler ile Sanat Tarihindeki eserler arasında ilişki kurabilmek.

Mini Minimalist Monogram- Building a geometric sculpture with Paper Mache OR CLAY (2pieces , 10x10 cube carving)



Toothpick Sculpture- a sculpture challenge that starts with 100 toothpicks. (glue gun + silicon) ((2pieces 20x20x20 sculpture)



Monsters in a Box- Using a borrowed drawing, create a monster out of clay and design unique packaging for it. (2pieces 20x20x20)


Figure modelling

Giacometti Figure Sculptures- Focusing on figure and proportion using wire and plaster tape.  (2pieces 20x20x20)


Folk art

Coiled Baskets- Folk Art weaving project focusing on daily useable art. (CLAY)


Kinetic art

Mobile- Learn how to create balance with a moving wire mobile in the style of Alexander Calder.







Mounted Animals- Paper Mache/CLAY  animal trophies.



Paper Pulp/CLAY Casting- Creating a mold and casting it with 
pulp made from recycled paper.



Story Assemblage- Tell a story with found objects.





Floral Foam Sculpture- Introduction to using carving tools.

(prepare a plaster mold 10x10x10 cube form for next week)
